Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2025
Overview
PC Notepad is built with privacy by default. Notes you type are processed in your browser and stored on your device. We do not run a server that stores your notes.
What we store on your device
- Notes (localStorage): Plaintext notes are saved locally in your browser. You can clear them anytime.
- Encrypted notes (AES‑GCM): If you enable Password Lock, your note content is encrypted client‑side. We cannot recover a forgotten password.
- Preferences: Theme (light/dark) and basic UI settings may be stored in localStorage.
- Offline cache (service worker): The app can be installed and used offline after first load.
What we do not collect
- No account or sign‑up information
- No note content sent to a server
- No ads or ad trackers
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand overall usage (page views, device types, etc.). This may set cookies in your browser. You can block analytics using common content blockers or browser privacy features.
Security
- Encryption (when enabled) is performed in your browser using Web Crypto (AES‑GCM).
- If you lose your password for an encrypted note, we cannot recover it.
- Always keep local backups by exporting notes (.txt/.docx/.pdf) for important data.
Your choices
- Use Password Lock for sensitive notes.
- Export notes to keep external backups.
- Clear localStorage to remove saved notes from your device.
- Block analytics with your browser or extensions if preferred.
Children’s privacy
PC Notepad is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will address it promptly.
