1. Overview
PC Notepad is built local-first. You can open the notepad and write without an account, and local notes are processed in your browser and stored on your device by default.
Optional cloud features are available when you choose them. If you sign in, create share links, or sync notes, related account, note, and share data may be stored on PC Notepad servers so those features can work.
2. Local Storage
2.1 Notes saved in your browser
Plaintext notes are saved locally in browser storage so the notepad can reload your work when you come back. This data stays on your device unless you export it, share it, clear browser data, or otherwise move it yourself.
2.2 Optional encrypted notes
If you enable Password Lock, note content is encrypted in your browser using Web Crypto with AES-GCM. We cannot see the encrypted note content and cannot recover a forgotten password.
2.3 Preferences and offline cache
Theme preference, basic UI settings, and app cache files may be stored locally so PC Notepad can load faster and work offline after the first visit.
2.4 Important backup note
Local notes can be removed if you clear browser data, reset the browser profile, use private browsing, uninstall the installed app, or switch to another device. Export important notes as TXT, DOCX, or PDF for your own backup.
3. Accounts, Cloud Sync, and Share Links
3.1 Account data
If you sign in, we may store account information such as your email address, name or profile image from the sign-in provider, authentication session records, and account timestamps.
3.2 Synced notes
Cloud sync is optional and account-based. Synced note records may include note identifiers, title, encrypted or encoded body payloads, revision data, sync timestamps, deletion markers, and technical metadata needed to keep notes updated across devices.
3.3 Share links
When you create a share link, we store the shared note payload and metadata such as share ID, permission, expiry, revoke status, view count, and timestamps. Simple public links store a readable shared snapshot. Private links store encrypted payloads and keep the decryption key in the URL fragment after #, which is not sent to the server in normal HTTP requests.
Editable links allow anyone with the complete link to update the shared note. Only share editable links with people you trust.
4. What We Do Not Collect
- No account is required to start writing local notes.
- We do not collect payment information.
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not use note content for advertising profiles.
- We do not intentionally log note bodies, share keys, or password-lock passwords.
5. Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand overall usage, such as page views, device types, rough geography, and general feature usage patterns. Analytics does not include the text you write in your notes.
Google Analytics may set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser. You can block analytics with browser privacy settings, content blockers, or extensions.
6. Security
PC Notepad uses HTTPS in production, browser-based storage, and optional client-side encryption for locked notes. Private share links encrypt the shared payload in the browser and place the key after # in the URL.
- We cannot recover password-locked notes if the password is lost.
- Anyone with a complete public, private, or editable share link may access the shared note according to that link's permission.
- Export important notes regularly for a separate backup.
- Do not paste passwords, recovery codes, or financial secrets into any browser tool unless you are comfortable managing the local, synced, or shared copy yourself.
7. Your Choices
- Use PC Notepad without signing in for local-only notes.
- Use Password Lock for sensitive local notes.
- Avoid public or editable links for sensitive content.
- Revoke share links from your account dashboard when they are no longer needed.
- Export notes to keep external backups.
- Clear localStorage or browser site data to remove saved local notes from your device.
- Block analytics with your browser or extensions if preferred.
- Contact us if you have a privacy question about the site.
8. Children's Privacy
PC Notepad is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will address it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the Last updated date above. Continued use of PC Notepad after updates means you accept the updated policy.
